A | (ECNS) -- Viral trends such as China Cool and Chinamaxxing are helping fuel a surge in international tourism, as more travelers head to China in search of immersive, firsthand experiences. The trend has also received high-profile attention from Elon Musk and his mother, Maye Musk, who have praised the country for its efficiency, cleanliness, and welcoming hospitality. Recent data points to a clear shift from traditional sightseeing toward what some are calling “China Living”—experiencing the country more like a local. In Guizhou Province, international hotel bookings jumped 84% as visitors ventured into ethnic villages and mountain retreats. In southwest China's Yunnan, UNESCO-listed Yuanyang rice terraces and lively local markets offer travelers deeper cultural experiences. Boutique guesthouses are also adapting, offering more personalized services for foreign families and helping create a fast-growing niche within the tourism industry. Infrastructure upgrades have been central to this growth. Streamlined services now include 240-hour transit visa exemptions, paperless tax refunds, and AI-powered translation tools. With international payment options increasingly available at major attractions, inbound tourist spending has risen by nearly 73% since June. As these improvements expand across hundreds of cities, they are giving international visitors a closer look at a “Real China”—safe, modern, convenient, and culturally rich—while helping reshape the country’s image as a leading global travel destination.
